Group Health Insurance for Part-Time
Faculty
and Paying for Summer Term Premiums
The new group coverage for part-time faculty began January 1st, 2008. The next group insurance enrollment period will be from August 15 to September 15, 2008, for the 2008-2009 school year. Eligibility will be met by those who teach 1.5 FTE or over in the 2007-2008 school year. Should you meet the 1.5 FTE eligibility in 2008 calendar year only, then you can enroll starting January 2009.
If you are covered by group insurance for 2008,
make sure your premiums get paid when you are not teaching. If you do not
pay your share of the monthly health insurance premium, then your coverage
will be cancelled and your bills will go to the collections department.

Health Insurance Reimbursement
Beginning January 1st, 2008,
part-time
faculty who
work over 1.5 FTE in a year (a halftime
workload) have
access to the Kaiser or Blue Cross group
insurance plans that the college offers,
and will no longer be eligible for the reimbursement
starting Winter Term 2008. Part-time
faculty who are not eligible for
the group plans (i.e., under 1.5 annual
FTE) may still get reimbursed
for purchasing their own private health
insurance policies or paying for a policy
available from a spouse’s
plan. Part-time
faculty are eligible for a reimbursement
for health insurance costs if they have
taught 3 out of the 4 last terms, for at
least 0.4 FTE (usually 2 classes) in one
of those terms. See the
online application for additional provisions
and for eligibility for purchasing through
a spouse's coverage.
The reimbursement
plan has limited funding and does not cover
dental or vision insurance. The
reimbursement comes out of a fund of $34,800
annually. The reimbursement checks are issued after each term. The amount of the checks depends on the
number of applicants for a particular term.
